Daddy Daughter

Quinn and Dalan have always had a very special relationship. I am sure it is even medically documented, because Quinn would breathe better if Dalan was in the room or holding her from the time she was born. She is 100% a daddy's girl. And I am 100% cool with that. I love how much they love each other, and I certainly don't mind when it gets me out of bath or bed time every once in a while. (Although, I love doing all those routine things with Quinn, like most people, I welcome a break from time to time.)

Dalan is the most patient parent ever, and loves Quinn to pieces. And I am very suspicious that Quinn often wakes up in the middle of the night just as an excuse to have extra daddy time.

They make an awesome duo, and I am so lucky to have them both!!!!

Here are some solo Dalan and Quinn shots. These pictures turned out so sweet. Quinn loves her daddy, like really LOVES her daddy. And I really love these two!

A Nice Little Saturday

Yesterday Quinn took her new bike outside for the first time, and took it for a little ride. Since she can't reach the ground, Dalan pushed while she rode. She looked like such a big girl. We then played out in the yard for about an hour. It was a beautiful day after days and days and days of rain. We also took Piper and Quinn on a walk.

(Isn't she cute when she spits?)

We also went to a little backyard party for one of Quinn's NICU friends, Kian.

Quinn was well behaved and good-natured for most of the day, but was in a "only Daddy" kind of mood. It worked out well, since I had book club that evening. He took her out to dinner with Ali and McKay, and she screamed the whole car ride there, only to instantly stop when he picked her up. Crazy baby. Not that I blame her though, he is pretty cool and funny!

New Things

Quinn tried Cheerios this morning. Well, not real Cheerios, but some organic, gluten-free version of them. She really liked playing with them, but she wasn't so sure about having them in her mouth quite yet. I think she ended up eating two. Piper also fully learned the benefits of sitting under the highchair during meal time. She ate more than two!

Dalan got a new car this weekend! A 2007 Jeep Patriot with super low miles. I am so excited. We now have two cars that can safely transport a wee child, and there will be no more mix ups if I accidentally take my car to work on a day Quinn has an appointment. Also, it will use like half as much gas as the truck. Don't worry though, we are keeping old Whitey Ford around for at least a little while.

The huz: a tribute

Seven years ago, I met some friends downtown for some drinks to celebrate a friend's birthday. My roommate was dating/had been dating this boy, and it was his roommate's birthday. The four of us had hung out before, and always had a good time. This friend had just gotten done with a birthday dinner with his family. He told a story about his sister jokingly deciding to start doing meth as weight loss method. He then explained that his sister worked at a drug and alcohol treatment center, so she was telling the story as a total joke. I asked what treatment center. He said I wouldn't know it. It was way out west. I smiled, and said I just might. He named it. It was the same one that I was working at, and I totally knew his sister. We laughed about it being a small world. It was a fun and memorable night.

Six years ago, I met some friends downtown for some drinks to celebrate a friend's birthday. There was a bigger crowd, including this friend's sister, and some of my other co-workers. It was fun, but awkward and exciting. This friend and I were having a quiet and semi-secret romance. I patiently waited out all the other people attending this event, even though it included going to another bar, and waiting for his roommate (his ride) to go home, so we could have some time alone. (That is the problem with secret romances. You have to get rid of everyone else to be alone with your lover.)

Five years ago, this boy and I had a housewarming/birthday party at our new place. Lots of friends came to celebrate the newly formed Carsellers household. It was fun. After everyone left, we laid in the hall and talked and talked and talked. I knew I wanted to marry him.

Four years ago, we went out to celebrate his birthday for drinks with friends. Piper had her first seizure that weekend, and we were nervous to leave her. We took her to my mom's house to be watched, and came home early. He was just as worried about Piper as I was, and I saw another example of his kind heart.

Three years ago, we were six days engaged on his birthday. We were floating in the clouds, and I was so excited to plan our wedding.

Two years ago, we celebrated his 30th birthday twice. First with our families, and then with our friends. We had a pirate theme, and it was a blast. It was our first married birthday.

One year ago, his birthday came and passed quietly. I was pregnant and tired, and he said he did not want to do make a big deal about it, so we didn't.

Today, he turns 32! We had a quiet, but fun weekend. We got pizza on Friday night. On Saturday night, we ran to a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Boy Scout's as a fundraiser for a kid in my class while my parents watched Quinn. We went to Target together too. It was fun.

More importantly, on this birthday, he is my husband, and Quinn's dad. He is amazing. We have had a crazy year, and I could not have asked for a better partner. He has been there for me all the times I felt like I was drowning. And he has been there to celebrate all the exciting and happy times we have had with our beautiful little girl. He makes me giggle. He dries my tears. He makes me smile. He eases my worried mind. He makes me feel pretty. He listens to me. He loves our dog. He loves me. He loves our baby. He is the best!

Who would ever thought that boy sitting across from at that dark and smoky bar seven years ago would one day be my huz? But I am so glad that he is!

Happy Birthday, Dearest Dalan! I love you! I hope you have the best day ever.

Weekend Fun!

I had a lovely and long weekend, four days long, in fact. It had the potential to be perfect, except Dalan had a standard length weekend and was sick. Oh well, you can't win them all. However, it was full of nice weather, and we left the house. As a family. And then as a couple. Hallelujah!

On Friday, we went to pick up some medical supplies for Quinn, and then went to see VaRonica and Nathan's house. It was so much fun, and was so good for my stir crazy little soul, plus Nathan and VaRonica have an adorable new house, and I was so happy to finally see it. That evening Dalan and I went to see Black Comedy at Pioneer Theater. My mom babysat. It was the first time I had left Quinn with anyone without Dalan sleeping upstairs. I was a little nervous, but of course it was fine. Quinn wanted to party with Grandma rather than sleep, but that was all. And the play was so good. And Dalan and I had so much fun.

On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, we were mostly lazy. Dalan was sick, so I was on Quinn duty full time, but it was nice to hang out and play. Quinn is adorable as ever, and does so many hilarious and cute things. She giggles all the time now. I love it! Quinn also ate like a champ on Saturday, not so much the next two days, but I am hoping it is a preview of things to come, rather than a fluke.

I actually feel rested and ready for the week.

Sleepy McSleeperson

Quinn fell asleep while playing on Dalan's lap the other night. One minute she was up and playing, and literally, the next she was dead asleep. She slept in that position for about an hour. It was pretty darn sweet. She looked so cute all cuddled up next to her dad. She also looked so "grown up" to me. Not like a newborn at all anymore. She is all baby!

And I had to get a family self portrait while we were at it....

Quinnie Meatballs!

Dalan has a new nickname for Quinn.

Quinnie Meatballs!

Because she is getting so round, due to some lack of growing tall, but some weight gain.

In fact, she is starting to fit into her 3-6 month clothes.

We call her it so much, that sometimes just refer to her as Meatballs.

Here is Quinnie Meatballs and her daddy playing on her play mat.

They are pretty smitten for each other.

A Sellers?

Quinn compared to her Dad....

Quinn compared to her Auntie VaRonica (along with some adorable pictures of Dalan as a toddler) ....

Quinn compared to her Grandpa Reg. (Ron)....

(I love these pictures of Ron!!!!)

I am kind of seeing Sellers in her big time, especially compared to that first picture of Dalan. It will be fun to continue to compare as she gets older.

Maybe she is just the perfect blend of mom and dad. All I know for sure is that she is adorable!
