Have a holly, jolly Christmas

This weekend Dalan and I decorated our house for Christmas. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work, due to our Christmas stuff being stored in several different locations during our move. Dalan doesn't really enjoy the hype of Christmas, but still was very helpful and a lot of fun during the decorating. He even had to climb under the stairs to search out more Tupperware storage tubs. Apparently, he got stuck under there once before when I was at work while getting our winter stuff out, and Piper had to pull him out by feet! At least, that is his story and he is sticking to it. Here are some pictures of Dalan under the stairs, and the finished products.

Missing Person Report

Today, Dalan and I were doing some chores around the house, and getting ready to put out our Christmas stuff. He ran to the post office, while I did the mopping. Well, I finished mopping, and was doing some things upstairs when I looked out the window. Both our cars were there, but I had not heard Dalan come in. I waited a minute, and looked back out the window to see if he was doing something outside. I could not see him. I came downstairs, and looked out the front door. No Dalan. I called his phone. It started ringing on the coffee table next to me. I called out his name. Nothing. I checked all the bathrooms (his favorite room), and still nothing. I called out his name louder. Nothing. I checked the backyard. No Dalan. I went out front again, now very worried, to check inside the cars. Hoping and praying that I would not find his body slumped over the steering wheel. Thankfully, he was not dead inside one of the cars, but still no Dalan. I was about to cry. I have no idea where he would be, and I have no way of getting a hold of him, since he left his phone on the table. So, I call my Dad in a total panic. He asks me if he is talking to a neighbor or something I assure Red that I have been outside and Dalan is not there. Red offers to come over and help. I tell him not yet. I will do another search. I am now imagining calling the police, and them searching for my missing husband, possibly dead husband. I am also feeling very guilty, because I was going to go to the post office, but was feeling too lazy to leave the house, so I made Dalan do it. I go outside one more time to check the cars, and...

I see Dalan directly across the street helping a single mom change her tire! I had observed this tire change each and every time I had looked/been outside, and never actually looked to see who the dude on the ground changing the tire actually was.....oooppppssss! I called my dad back, and he had a good laugh at my expense. I then took a minute to be grateful that he was safe and sound, in addition, to being the type of guy who stops and helps women change their tires. He really is the best!

Narcolepsy

Mckay, my sister's wonderful boyfriend, turned 22 years old this past weekend! Hooray for Mckay (I am a poet, and I totally know it.)

The night of his birthday, Ali and McKay went to dinner with his family to celebrate the blessed event. After dinner, the happy couple stopped by our house to pick up a University of Utah shirt for Ali to borrow and wear to work during the big game. (If you have to ask what game, you don't even know me.)

They also brought the new game, Sorry Spinners, with them. The game is a lot like shuffle board, which is one of my favorite bar games ever. In fact, it is the few things that will actually get me to a smoke-filled, over-priced, crowded bar these days. But unlike shuffle board, it fits into a small box, and does not take ten of your friends to chip in a buy the table since it is under $30! We played a few rounds of the game in our kitchen and had an awesome time.

After the game, we retired into the living room to be more comfortable, and so Ali could show me something on the computer. McKay laid on our small green couch, and promptly fell asleep in less than three minutes. On his birthday. With a room full of people. At someone else's house. In a room full of very noisy people. This boy and his ability to sleep is incredible! He can fall asleep anywhere without notice, and really sleep. He remained in a deep, deep sleep for over an hour. It literally took Ali over 15 minutes to wake him up to go. So, I decided I think he may have narcolepsy, so I looked up the symptoms. Here they are from webmd:
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS): In general, EDS interferes with normal activities on a daily basis, whether or not a person with narcolepsy has sufficient sleep at night. People with EDS report mental cloudiness, a lack of energy and concentration, memory lapses, a depressed mood, and/or extreme exhaustion.
  • Cataplexy: This symptom consists of a sudden loss of muscle tone that leads to feelings of weakness and a loss of voluntary muscle control. It can cause symptoms ranging from slurred speech to total body collapse depending on the muscles involved and is often triggered by intense emotion, for example surprise, laughter, or anger.
  • Hallucinations: Usually, these delusional experiences are vivid and frequently they are frightening. The content is primarily visual, but any of the other senses can be involved. These are called hypnagogic hallucinations when accompanying sleep onset and hypnopompic hallucinations when occurring during awakening.
  • Sleep paralysis: This symptom involves the temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. These episodes are generally brief lasting a few seconds to several minutes. After episodes end, people rapidly recover their full capacity to move and speak.
Ok, he does fall asleep during normal activities, but I have not observed any of the other three...so maybe just a sleep disorder? I need my friends with nursing and psych. degrees to chime in on this one.

Here are the pictures of Ali trying to wake him up:
He also accused her of biting his arm when she was trying to wake him up, which she totally did not....wait, maybe that was one of the sensory hallucinations mentioned above!

Here is when he made her put on her shoes, and then told her that they were never having kids, because she did not do a good job!

Betrayed by my very own dog!

Last night Dalan and I were ultimate fighting. He is obsessed, and I am his favorite thing to practice on, plus I love any type of competition, especially if I can prove I am stronger than Dalan. Piper gets real nervous when we play fight, and usually we stop. However, last night we would just throw her toy and she thought she was part of the game.

So, in the first round I had to tap out. Dalan had me in some crazy hold in which he claimed he would control my breathing, and he was fairly effective at it. So I tapped, even though I hate to. Round two was my idea because I hate to lose. I was fired up, and did some awesome moves, and thought I was well on my way to winning. Dalan then some how managed to make my ankle turn in a strange way, and slam my elbow against the wood floor. As I was telling him in my exaggerated-maybe-he-will-give-me-a-chance-to-get back-into-a-power-position-because-he-feels-bad-kind-of-way that both my ankle and elbow were broken, Piper came rushing at us, and bit my face. Not hard, but not that soft either.

Hello, Piper is supposed to protect me when men are attacking me. Not rush the victim and bite her! So much for my little guard dog. Although, I think she thought we were still playing and I am the parent who usually plays the roughest with her, I still was totally betrayed by my very own dog!

Dalan and his super hot beard

Dalan has grown a beard again.

And I am happy.

I love his beard, and think it is extremely attractive.

One might even say it turns me on, ok, I would say that, because it does.

Big time!

I think a mustache all Burt Reynolds style would be like the hottest thing ever, but he won't grow one of those for me.

Yet.

Here is Dalan with his beard last winter when we got engaged. I am not saying I only agreed to marry this guy because of his super sexy beard, but it certainly did not hurt things either.

See how sexy this is....now picture Dalan with the same mustache and in the same pose. I know, huh! HOT!
You're Welcome!

Jessi and the no good, very bad, hot mess of a day

Yesterday, was not a good day. It started off on the wrong foot, and continued that way until the moments I fell asleep. Let me give you the run down.

1. I slept later than I wanted (this is typical), and then did not turn off my alarm (this is not typical). I was midst shower when I heard it going off, so I quickly hopped out, and grabbed a towel. By the time, I had done all this Dalan had turned off the alarm. I felt bad for waking him up.

2. As I was getting ready to get dressed, I reached kind of lazily to grab a pair of pants at the end of the rod that Dalan had installed for me, and ended up pulling the whole things out of the wall. Talk about my brute strength. The clothes then covered up all my shoes, and left a whole in the wall.

3. While driving to work I moved my sun visor to the side to shield my eyes. When, I went to get out of the car I smacked my head against said visor in the front of others. Not the worse thing ever, but embarrassing.

4. Then we had an assembly, which is usually a good thing, but this one was painful. It was Ronald McDonald teaching about being a good friend, but his jokes were horrible, and not just cheesy horrible, like cheesy with bad delivery. And although the kids were laughing the whole time, it was forced laughter, like they so wanted it to be funny they would just keep laughing to prove it.

5. I got my errands, exercise, and papers for my ESL class out of the way quickly, but then sat around for hours not studying. I never really studied for my final.

6. Right before bedtime, Piper was withering around and crying as she has gotten her enormously long dew claw stuck in her tags. I ran to her, and got her unhooked before any real damage was done. Dalan took her and got her nails cut today. During which she growled, cried, and fought the groomer the entire time.

7. I could not sleep, and laid in bed for over an hour. Then at 12:30 I felt Piper moving under the covers. I thought she was licking, so I nudged her. She did not stop, so I looked under the covers. She was having a seizure, despite her meds and being seizure free for 6 months! I grabbed her and held her, and said you will be ok. The seizure stopped. Thank goodness. It was the shortest least serious seizure she has ever had. I think I may not have given her a full dose of medicine yesterday. Let's hope that is it. She seems fine today. In fact, after it happened she cuddled with me for about 5 minutes. She then tried to "fight me/play with me" for the next twenty minutes. It was a long night.

It is not herpes if it is everywhere

This is one of my favorite quotes from the movie, Knocked Up. In case, you have not seen it or do not remember the scene, it goes something like this. One of the male characters responds to the news that one of the female character's kids may have the chicken pox, that he has had the chicken pox like seven times and has no immunity to it. One of his buddies then jokes that they don't have the heart to tell him it is just herpes. He responds with my favorite quote, "it is not herpes if it is everywhere."

That is EXACTLY how I am feeling right now. I have three, count them THREE, cold sores on my lips right now. Two on top and one on bottom. And before you all judge, and think how disgusting it must be, let me tell you a few things. First of all, while I will not "out" any of you here, I know about half the people who read my blog get chronic cold sores as well. So there. Second of all, it is totally disgusting and painful. I feel like Typhoid Mary or something. And leave it up to Abbie in my class to ask, "Do you have a rash or something?" I just ignored her. My self esteem was already low about the state of my lips to discuss it with her at that point and time.

I usually get cold sores when I am stressed or the weather changes. I was terrified of getting one for my wedding. I can usually take care of the actual sore (gross, I know) with medicine in a day or two, but then they scab (even worse, I know). Then they linger and stay on my lips for what seems like weeks. I was sure I would get one for the wedding with all the stress of the planning, and teaching school, and then when it snowed the week before the wedding, I thought I was a goner. But, yes Virgina there is a Santa Claus, and I made it through my wedding cold sore free. So, I guess my THREE painful sores now are a small price to pay for a herpes free wedding!

Here are some pictures I tried to take of my lips, but I could not truly capture the monstrosity that is my mouth....

Engaged and Underage

I love the show, Engaged and Underage on MTV. It is a total guilty pleasure, but I cannot help myself, because it equals pure entertainment for me. I love all the drama that goes along with being married barely out of high school. I love how naive the people on the show are, and how controlling their parents try to be. I love the morality of some of the characters, and the immorality of other ones. I could watch it for hours.

My favorite episode is the one with the young Mormon couple from Utah. I think because they are so stereotypical of everything people associate with Utahans, Mormons, and getting married so young. It also helps that the girl is so whiny, the boy is a total push over, and the bridesmaids are wearing white at the ring ceremony. This all makes the episode so great too. Oh, and when the girl is making spaghetti and frozen rolls to show her future mother-in-law that she will be a good wife. Pretty sure, all my fourth graders can handle spaghetti and frozen rolls. That would be like me saying I am a good wife because I made Dalan some Kraft Mac and Cheese for lunch the other day! Oh, or when the newly wed couple has his family over for dinner and their house is a total mess. I know I am not the best house keeper, but if a camera crew was coming to my house, I would at least shove the dirty laundry into a hamper!

So, if anyone is looking for a Christmas present for me, I will take Engaged and Underage Season 1.

My Martha Stewart weekend

This weekend, I decided it was time to be domesticated. It was cold outside, and I have all these new wedding toys to put to use. Last night, I made some delicious cookies in our new Kitchen Aid. I do love me some cookies. This morning I made waffles on our new waffle iron. Thy did not turn out as well as I would have hoped. I don't think I was putting enough batter into the iron, so next time they will be even better. I do love me some breakfast! Next, I will move onto more crafting and making fancier foods.

Dalan is number one!

Dalan is the best. There I said it.

Now I will continue to brag about why he is the best. On Thursday night, he texted me to see if I wanted to go see a play the next night. Of course, I was interested. So, he bought us tickets for Noises Off at Pioneer Theater for the 8:00 show on Friday night. I was so excited! Plus, it is a nice bonus to have a husband who initiates going to the theater, rather than having to be forced to go. I got home from work on Friday, we got all dressed up and went to dinner at the Gateway. We got done a little early, so we did a some shopping! I bought a new shirt, and then Dalan made fun of me the entire time we were Anthropologie because I was so into all the bird items they have there now. Apparently, I make a little bird noise, and then make the birds do all these little actions every time I see one. I think he was exaggerating!

The drive from Gateway to the University was frustrating, however, we tried to take South Temple, and it was closed at Main Street. We turned down Main Street and got caught behind a horse and carriage for 4 blocks! It took us over 7 minutes to drive those 4 blocks. I was ready to pull my hair out, but we made it to the theater with plenty of time, and saw a hilarious play! I had never seen it before, and I laughed so hard. We had a dude sitting next to us for the first act who was texting the whole time, and then, complained about the language of the show and the fact, that there was a girl in lingerie in the play, but thankfully he left after the first act. I was also shocked about how many people were wearing jeans to a play. What is wrong with people. First of all, it is fun to all dressed up and have a night on the town, and second of all, wearing jeans to the theater, even in Salt Lake City, is kinda tacky!

We are now going to drive to American Fork to get some lunch from Chadders, which is a blatant rip off of In n' Out Burger, but since there is not one of those here, we need to go to the copy cat operation.

The name of the blog

I think the name of my snoop bloggy blog is pretty clear, but maybe it isn't, so I will clarify.

First of all, my new last name is Sellers, well not legally yet, but it will be. However, since I announced my engagement people have needed help spelling it. They always want to know if it Sellers, Sellars, or Cellars. I would have never thought to spell it like a cellar(basement), but a lot of people have asked, so it has stuck with me.

Second of all, sometime I have my whiney pants on (if you need clarification on what it means to wear different types of pants, check out Becca's blog). In fact, when I was little, my parents used to threaten to call the home for the excessive whiners and I would have to live there, if I did not stop whining. I think the thought of going to live in a "home" was a little intriguing to me, however, since I did constantly role play being Little Orphan Annie.

So, when I was trying to name my new blog I was playing around with words, and I kept thinking about Sellers as being cellars, and what do you keep in a cellar? Wine! And possibly a secret brother or some other creepy thing....So then I was thinking of ways to play around with the two words together, and while I enjoy a glass of wine or two on occassion, I did not want to give the impression of being a wine expert or that the blog was about wine. Then, it hit me! I love to bitch and moan about things and I am a Sellers now...thus The Whine Sellers was born!

Picture it!

These two dogs could have possibly hooked up years ago, and started the chain of DNA that is Piper!

THE RESULTS ARE IN.....

Today, I received Piper's Ancestry Analysis in the mail...I was so giddy to see it, I literally jumped up and down. I was also so excited while opening I had a hard time tearing the envelope open, but I did! And now I have an answer for question that has plagued me for the last 4 years....What kind of dog is she?

Drum roll please.....

Piper is.....

20 to 36% Beagle
10-19% Bichon Frise
10-19% Chihuahua
10-19% Cocker Spaniel
10-19% Great Dane
10-19% Labrador Retriever
10-19% Poodle

Almost all of these were on the list of guesses, although I think some of the guesses were a bit sarcastic. Dalan's mom LaDene ended up being the most right with her guess of Beagle. Way to go LaDene!

In the report, they give you a brief summary of the characteristics and health problems a pet may have due to their DNA, and apparently, Beagles are prone to epilepsy. So, that pretty much explains the seizures. Chihuahua's are aggressive toward other breeds, so that could explain her hate for all living non-humans. Poodles and Chihuahuas are also loyal to the owners to a fault, so that could explain her over-protection of me in all situations. And Cocker Spaniels have a difficult time being house broken, so that could explain all her accidents.

I would have never guessed Beagle, but I do feel a little satisfied that all those years of calling her a cock-uahua was not far off base...I still am a little puzzled by the Great Dane, but stranger things have happened.

This is how I think Piper's ancestry went down. A Great Dane and a Lab had some puppies. One of those puppies had some more puppies with a Cocker. Which then had some puppies with a Poodle-Bichon mix. And one of those puppies had puppies with a Chichuahua, and one of those puppies had puppies with a Beagle. One of the puppies was Piper.

Or something like that....

Did you know....

....that one of Sarah Palin's daughters is named Piper. I did not. Santa told me told while my Piper was sitting on his lap. Well, actually he made a joke about my Piper being from Alaska that I did not get, and Ali had to explain it to me later. So, really I learned something new from both Santa and Ali today.

Piper's playdate with Annie

Today, my friend Hilary came over with her girls, Annie and Ellie. Annie loves to come over and play with Piper. Piper likes to chase Annie around trying to lick her, and to smell Ellie over and over. Piper loves the smell of a baby, especially their car seats. On more than one occasion Piper has tried to climb into someone's car seat. Maybe it is not the smell, but rather that she thinks she is, in fact, an actual baby?

Annie is about 2 and half, super precocious, and adorable. While she was here, she played with Piper. She screamed and laughed anytime Piper licked her, but always went back for more. She also sang her ABC's for us in both Spanish and English, counted for us in both languages, sang all kinds of nursery rhymes, figured out on her own that Piper starts with a "P" and Dalan starts with a "D", and spelled her own name several times. One of my favorite interactions of the day with Annie was when Dalan referred to her sister, Ellie, as a kid.

Annie said, "Yeah, Ellie is a kid."

I asked, "Are you a kid too, Annie."

She replied, "No, I am a genius!"

So true, so true!

Piper with her play date for the day, Annie. Annie is better posing for the camera than Piper.

I am holding Piper, so Annie can pet her without being licked to death. Although, I think the risk of the lick is part of the fun for Annie.

Piper's gone country....Billy Ray style

I am still anxiously awaiting the results of Piper's DNA test, but in the meantime, I do have some pictures that may explain some things about her roots......

Here is the view from the front

The side

And the back...Piper is licking Ali's face as a plea to take the wig off!

She hated every moment of having it on, but the results are hilarious. So hilarious, Ali is considering having Griffin wear it for his picture with Santa since he is way to huge to wear traditional dog apparel. However, if Piper ends up being some sort of a hunting dog then we know the mullet is all Piper's!

My silly puppy

When I adopted Piper 3 years and 10 months ago, she came with some issues and quirks. Ok, Ok, a lot of issues and quirks. As she has felt safe and become part of the family, some of issues have disappeared, some have intensified, and some have appeared!

She did not like men, and peed at the mere presence of an unknown male entering a room. In fact, on one of the first dates Dalan and I went on, Piper peed all over my lap, because I was thinking if I held her she would be more comfortable around this new guy if she was close to me. I was wrong. Luckily she has outgrown this for the most part, and now loves Dalan almost as much as she loves me.

She also did not like other animals. She snarled and hid from my parents' dogs when I brought her over there. This she did not outgrow. In fact, she actual got worse as she grew more protective over me and our house. However, she does now tolerate my sister's dog, Griffin. This is a big step for Piper.

She licks metal and collects coins in her bed.

She also hordes bones and treats. I know this is a stereotypical dog behavior. You know, a dog gets a bone and buries it. She has never buried a bone, but she does hide them in every corner of our house. Once she hid her bone in a clean basket of laundry, only to later climb in and start chewing it all over the our clothes!

Lately, she has become more obsessed with them. In fact, last night she would not put her bone down to go outside. I kept taking it from her, and she would just pick it up again. So, we went outside with her bone hanging out the side of her mouth, and then instead, of doing her business, she laid on the wet grass (usually her mortal enemy) to chew it out there. I brought her back inside, and went upstairs to go to sleep. She then went into the spare bedroom found a bigger bone, and tried to chew it on the bed. I took this one away, she got over it, and climbed under the covers to get some sleep.

She also won't chew her bone if no one is here. She must wait and wait for us to get home when she has a bone, because the moment we walk in the door, she says hello, and then charges full speed to her bed to get her bone.

She really is a silly, silly little doggie. Maybe her DNA will explain some of her quirks and issues, but any which way, I love her to death!

Oh, and I wrote myself in today ....really!

When given the choice for District 3's Congressional seat, I was left unable to make a choice between the candidates. All three candidates had platforms full of hate and intolerance. They are so intolerant it made my skin crawl. I debated over what to do. So, when I got there, and was faced with the choice, I wrote myself in. I wish had at least campaigned a little. I think I could have gotten at least 7 votes. Although, I will not be heading to Washington anytime soon, at least, I can sleep at night knowing I supported someone who does not have an agenda of hate and bigotry, but rather one of acceptance, love, and growth.

Freezing my balls off

Baby, it is cold outside. So cold, I have been on the couch under a blanket with the fireplace on for the last two hours. Piper is freezing her balls off too! She hates the cold. And think of poor Dalan, who is the member of this family who is working in a cold warehouse, and the only one with actual balls. He must be literally freezing his balls off.

At least, I have 90210 to keep me warm, and the fact, it looks like Obama will be our next President.....that really warms my heart and soul.

Tonight I became my mother

While I was growing up my mother would rearrange the dishwasher every time someone other than her did the dishes. It drove me nuts. It always made me think of the saying, "there is more than one way to skin a cat." (which is a saying I hate by the way, due to the visual it leaves in my mind, and my love for all of God's creatures, well, all of God's creatures, except pigeons and box elder bugs.)

Well, tonight I got home from dinner at my parents, and decided to load the dishes sitting in the sink from lunch and last night's snacks into the dishwasher. Dalan had cleared the dishwasher yesterday, and loaded a few things into it while I was sick in bed. I have totally been in awe of all the household stuff Dalan has been doing since the wedding, while I, on the other hand, have been struggling to keep up with work and my class, let alone the house. Anyway, I looked how it was loaded and I had to rearrange it. All I could think about is how many more items I could put in the dishwasher if I did it my way! Maybe it is the environmentalist in me not wanting to waste water. Maybe it is the lazy side of me wanting to do all the dishes in one load instead of two. OR maybe, just maybe, I have become my mother....which is not a bad thing :-)

A girl and her wedding dress

Amy took some beautiful pictures of me in my wedding dress. Since a girl only gets to wear this fancy, fabulous, and expensive dress for one day, I thought I would share some of the pictures of with you all, so it would get to be appreciated a few more times.

My new fav Christmas song

I think this is the song my class will be singing at the holiday sing a long at school this year. It is awesome!

Halloween Sickness

Last night, Dalan, Piper, and I went to my parents' house to eat some Halloween dinner and see the little trick or treaters. We showed up in our full Charlotte's Web gear. My spider costume turned out pretty well, thanks to Dalan fixing my sewing machine, so I could put everything together at the last minute.

We then went to Jen and Gil's for their annual Halloween party. They had their house decked out in a Nightmare Before Christmas theme, and their costumes looked great. We had a lot of fun, but I was feeling a bit under the weather so we did not stay too late, and I only got a few pictures.

Today, I have been feeling worse. I have felt this bad the day after Halloween before, but it was because I ate too much candy or drank way too much, this time it is just a damn cold! However, Dalan has been taking good care of me, and even cleaned the whole house today while I was in bed. What a great guy, and so far, my track record of being a good housekeeper as a wife is poor, very poor!

Wilbur, Templeton, and Charolette...Piper was pissed and did not want to look at the camera.

This is my favorite....she is "some pig"

Nghia as Inbred Jed. His shorts were dangerously short. You can also see Patti lurking in the background dressed as a cow.

Amy and Jen
