Poor, sick computer

My lemon of a computer is under the weather again, until we figure out a solution I will be noticeably absent from the blogging world.

Dalan's truck is also feeling under the weather, and decided to stop working. We may soon be the owners of a new computer and a new car. Lucky (?) us! Saving money is so overrated, right? Cole did offer to trade us his car for McKay's laptop, McKay agreed to the trade as long as I give him Piper. As good as a deal as it is, I don't feel comfortable trading my first born daughter/dog for a car.

It is Ali's 20th birthday today! In fact, I am typing this on her brand new, shiny laptop. Not that I am jealous or anything. Happy Birthday! Thanks for lending me your new toy for a minute! Love you!

The weird and the wonderful

Dalan and I went Las Vegas over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, because we got tickets on Southwest a few months ago for $25 each way. It was a good excuse to plan a little getaway. The trip to Vegas was fun, and including a good mix of the expected and the unexpected.

Here is a list of the weird and wonderful events that took place over the weekend.

1. We stayed at The Excalibur again, and we got upgraded to a better room again. It was a pretty nice room, especially by Vegas casino on a budget standards, although not as nice as the one we got upgraded to last time. Also, the counter in the bathroom was so high. I could barely reach over to wash my face over the counter.

2. We went to see the dolphins and the tigers again at The Secret Garden at The Mirage. I love it there. The temperature was in the low sixties, and it was sunny. We got to watch the dolphins with almost no crowds. Also, when we were there in October, 2008 there was a newborn dolphin, and now she is 16 months old, and full of spunk. It was so neat to watch her play and show off.

3. We went to dinner at Nine Fine Irishmen at New York, New York. They have the best chicken pot pie on the planet. They also had a live Irish band playing there both times we have been, with the same small Asian woman dancing in the crowd. It was bizarre. She is a tiny woman who is all dressed up, but dressed up like it is 1987, and she dances and dances. To see the same person twice 15 months apart in Vegas was very strange to me.

4. We went to the Botanical Garden at The Bellagio, and saw their tribute to Chinese New Year. Reminded me of being back in Montreal and all the pretty gardens we saw there. It did not compare to what we saw there, but still was still very pretty, and enough to help you were in the middle of a smoke-filled casino in the desert.

5. We saw Zumanity at New York, New York. It was incredible. It was funny, sexy, and amazing all at the same time. It is definitely a show to go to with your lover, and not your parents, but we loved it.

6. We also saw Tournament of Kings at Excalibur, and it was a lot of fun. It was cheesy and silly, but fun. I liked to eat with my hands, cheer on my king, and boo the other teams. I don't know if I would go again unless we have a kiddo who was into it, but for a one time experience it was fun.

7. We went to the top of the Eiffel Tower at The Paris, and got to see the fountains at the Bellagio from above. It was really pretty, and fun to see from another vantage. It was also fun to see all the lights on the strip from up above.

8. We tried soft drinks from 16 different countries at the Coca Cola place. It was a fun little experiment. We were warned that "Beverly" from Italy was the worse by some children, and they were right. It was disgusting. The mint flavored drink from India was a close second. Most of the flavors were ok, just too sweet. They only ones I liked were two that were similar tasting to coke and to cherry coke, and one lemon flavored drink from England.

9. We went to the Liberace museum. We had to take a cab to get out there, but then realized that there was free shuttle available. Oh well, at least we only paid for the cab one way. The Liberace museum was a fabulously gaudy. I loved seeing the bedazzled cars, pianos, and costumes. It was interesting, the tour guide never mentioned that he was homosexual and tried to sugar coat his death from HIV. Hello, it is 2010, pretty sure it is cool that he was a gay man in the 1980's that contracted AIDS, it is not shocking or scandalous.

10. It rained. Of course, it rained. Dalan and I were on vacation, that is what happens these days. It only drizzled on and off for one day, but the whole city freaked out. The news reported over 90 weather related car accidents. It guess for a place that only gets 3 or 4 inches of rain a year, getting a quarter of an inch in a day freaks people out.

11. We took glorious naps, did a ton of walking, and just enjoyed each others company. It was so nice to get away with the huz, relax, and hang out. I totally value all the time Dalan and I get together without the distractions of the real world.

Hey

Hey, Dalan here. Just wanted to thank everyone for voting for me in The Great Debate. I knew it was not right to call it half time. That is all for now. Peace out. Thank you. Much love, Dalan.

Lucky

I am lucky, because I have been fortunate enough to be born into a family that loves me a lot, and even though I am thirty, they still help take care of me.

I am lucky, because I am married to someone who shares my joys and sorrows equally with me, no matter how small or how serious.

I am lucky, because I have met and befriended some of the most caring and concerned people on the planet.

I am lucky, because when I have a rough day, all these people make me happy and loved. So happy and loved, that at the end of said rough day, I am reflecting on how lucky I am to have good people in my life, rather than feeling bad about the day.

I am lucky!

The great debate

Last night, Dalan and I saw the play, Touch(ed), last night as part of our season ticket package at Pioneer Memorial Theater. It was awful, which was disappointing. We have loved all the other plays we have seen there, but I guess they all can't be winners.

While we were there, we got into a discussion about what to call the break in the middle of the play, since we were contemplating leaving during this break. It was that bad!

One of us, kept calling this break, half time. This person thought it was a funny and an endearing way to refer to the break, although they were well aware that it is most commonly called an intermission. This person argued that half time and intermission were synonyms, and you could call the break in the middle of a football game, intermission, so why could you not call the break in the middle of the play, half time?

The other person said was stupid to call the break, half time, and that it made the person calling it that seem less intelligent. They also argued that the break in the play was close to half way through the play, but not necessarily at the exact half way point. They also argued that since in a play they do not keep track of time, like you do at a sporting event, that it could not be called half time. That person insisted that intermission, or maybe break, were the only acceptable terms.

I will not tell you who was on what side of this great and important debate, but we do want to know your opinion.

Is it ok to call the break in a play half time? Or should it be called intermission only?

Discuss!

The normal life

I went to back to work this week. The break was nice. The kids were magically good the first day back from break, like first day of the school year good. They were quiet, hard working, and attentive. Today, some of the magic wore off. They remembered that they could be a little loud, a little lazy, and a little off task, and I would still like them. Hopefully, the stay just like they were today. They say some funny things when they are like they were today, and they don't drive me crazy. It is a good mix. Teaching perfect children is easy, but rarely fun.

Dalan and I managed to not take any of the Christmas stuff down over my beak. He did it yesterday. Told you he was a bad ass. The house is almost back to normal. It feels good, although I do miss the merriment of the holidays.

The house is only almost back to normal, because we have a dishes situation. I admittedly poured way too much soap in the dishwasher on Sunday night. Dalan has rerun the dishwasher twice to get rid of the "cow pie" size of chunks of soap left behind. His words, not mine. Told you he was a bad ass. I am going to have to rinse the remaining soap off by hand tonight, and load all the new dishes.

Also, only almost back to normal, because Ali came over and cleaned the closet out in our bedroom. The girl loves to organize, and I love to take advantage of that fact. It is a win-win situation really. However, now I have a beautifully clean closet, but a monster pile of clothes to take somewhere to donate. But, it is cold and getting dark when I get home from work and I have not gotten around to it yet.
