Today, Dalan and I were doing some chores around the house, and getting ready to put out our Christmas stuff. He ran to the post office, while I did the mopping. Well, I finished mopping, and was doing some things upstairs when I looked out the window. Both our cars were there, but I had not heard Dalan come in. I waited a minute, and looked back out the window to see if he was doing something outside. I could not see him. I came downstairs, and looked out the front door. No Dalan. I called his phone. It started ringing on the coffee table next to me. I called out his name. Nothing. I checked all the bathrooms (his favorite room), and still nothing. I called out his name louder. Nothing. I checked the backyard. No Dalan. I went out front again, now very worried, to check inside the cars. Hoping and praying that I would not find his body slumped over the steering wheel. Thankfully, he was not dead inside one of the cars, but still no Dalan. I was about to cry. I have no idea where he would be, and I have no way of getting a hold of him, since he left his phone on the table. So, I call my Dad in a total panic. He asks me if he is talking to a neighbor or something I assure Red that I have been outside and Dalan is not there. Red offers to come over and help. I tell him not yet. I will do another search. I am now imagining calling the police, and them searching for my missing husband, possibly dead husband. I am also feeling very guilty, because I was going to go to the post office, but was feeling too lazy to leave the house, so I made Dalan do it. I go outside one more time to check the cars, and...
I see Dalan directly across the street helping a single mom change her tire! I had observed this tire change each and every time I had looked/been outside, and never actually looked to see who the dude on the ground changing the tire actually was.....oooppppssss! I called my dad back, and he had a good laugh at my expense. I then took a minute to be grateful that he was safe and sound, in addition, to being the type of guy who stops and helps women change their tires. He really is the best!

Narcolepsy
Mckay, my sister's wonderful boyfriend, turned 22 years old this past weekend! Hooray for Mckay (I am a poet, and I totally know it.)
The night of his birthday, Ali and McKay went to dinner with his family to celebrate the blessed event. After dinner, the happy couple stopped by our house to pick up a University of Utah shirt for Ali to borrow and wear to work during the big game. (If you have to ask what game, you don't even know me.)
They also brought the new game, Sorry Spinners, with them. The game is a lot like shuffle board, which is one of my favorite bar games ever. In fact, it is the few things that will actually get me to a smoke-filled, over-priced, crowded bar these days. But unlike shuffle board, it fits into a small box, and does not take ten of your friends to chip in a buy the table since it is under $30! We played a few rounds of the game in our kitchen and had an awesome time.
After the game, we retired into the living room to be more comfortable, and so Ali could show me something on the computer. McKay laid on our small green couch, and promptly fell asleep in less than three minutes. On his birthday. With a room full of people. At someone else's house. In a room full of very noisy people. This boy and his ability to sleep is incredible! He can fall asleep anywhere without notice, and really sleep. He remained in a deep, deep sleep for over an hour. It literally took Ali over 15 minutes to wake him up to go. So, I decided I think he may have narcolepsy, so I looked up the symptoms. Here they are from webmd:
Here are the pictures of Ali trying to wake him up:
He also accused her of biting his arm when she was trying to wake him up, which she totally did not....wait, maybe that was one of the sensory hallucinations mentioned above!
Here is when he made her put on her shoes, and then told her that they were never having kids, because she did not do a good job!

It literally took Ali over 15 minutes to wake him up to go. So, I decided I think he may have narcolepsy, so I looked up the symptoms. Here they are from webmd:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS): In general, EDS interferes with normal activities on a daily basis, whether or not a person with narcolepsy has sufficient sleep at night. People with EDS report mental cloudiness, a lack of energy and concentration, memory lapses, a depressed mood, and/or extreme exhaustion.
- Cataplexy: This symptom consists of a sudden loss of muscle tone that leads to feelings of weakness and a loss of voluntary muscle control. It can cause symptoms ranging from slurred speech to total body collapse depending on the muscles involved and is often triggered by intense emotion, for example surprise, laughter, or anger.
- Hallucinations: Usually, these delusional experiences are vivid and frequently they are frightening. The content is primarily visual, but any of the other senses can be involved. These are called hypnagogic hallucinations when accompanying sleep onset and hypnopompic hallucinations when occurring during awakening.
- Sleep paralysis: This symptom involves the temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. These episodes are generally brief lasting a few seconds to several minutes. After episodes end, people rapidly recover their full capacity to move and speak.

Betrayed by my very own dog!
Last night Dalan and I were ultimate fighting. He is obsessed, and I am his favorite thing to practice on, plus I love any type of competition, especially if I can prove I am stronger than Dalan. Piper gets real nervous when we play fight, and usually we stop. However, last night we would just throw her toy and she thought she was part of the game.
So, in the first round I had to tap out. Dalan had me in some crazy hold in which he claimed he would control my breathing, and he was fairly effective at it. So I tapped, even though I hate to. Round two was my idea because I hate to lose. I was fired up, and did some awesome moves, and thought I was well on my way to winning. Dalan then some how managed to make my ankle turn in a strange way, and slam my elbow against the wood floor. As I was telling him in my exaggerated-maybe-he-will-give-me-a-chance-to-get back-into-a-power-position-because-he-feels-bad-kind-of-way that both my ankle and elbow were broken, Piper came rushing at us, and bit my face. Not hard, but not that soft either.
Hello, Piper is supposed to protect me when men are attacking me. Not rush the victim and bite her! So much for my little guard dog. Although, I think she thought we were still playing and I am the parent who usually plays the roughest with her, I still was totally betrayed by my very own dog!

Dalan and his super hot beard
Dalan has grown a beard again.
And I am happy.
I love his beard, and think it is extremely attractive.
One might even say it turns me on, ok, I would say that, because it does.
Big time!
I think a mustache all Burt Reynolds style would be like the hottest thing ever, but he won't grow one of those for me.
Yet.
Here is Dalan with his beard last winter when we got engaged. I am not saying I only agreed to marry this guy because of his super sexy beard, but it certainly did not hurt things either.
See how sexy this is....now picture Dalan with the same mustache and in the same pose. I know, huh! HOT!
You're Welcome!

Jessi and the no good, very bad, hot mess of a day
Yesterday, was not a good day. It started off on the wrong foot, and continued that way until the moments I fell asleep. Let me give you the run down.
1. I slept later than I wanted (this is typical), and then did not turn off my alarm (this is not typical). I was midst shower when I heard it going off, so I quickly hopped out, and grabbed a towel. By the time, I had done all this Dalan had turned off the alarm. I felt bad for waking him up.
2. As I was getting ready to get dressed, I reached kind of lazily to grab a pair of pants at the end of the rod that Dalan had installed for me, and ended up pulling the whole things out of the wall. Talk about my brute strength. The clothes then covered up all my shoes, and left a whole in the wall.

3. While driving to work I moved my sun visor to the side to shield my eyes. When, I went to get out of the car I smacked my head against said visor in the front of others. Not the worse thing ever, but embarrassing.
4. Then we had an assembly, which is usually a good thing, but this one was painful. It was Ronald McDonald teaching about being a good friend, but his jokes were horrible, and not just cheesy horrible, like cheesy with bad delivery. And although the kids were laughing the whole time, it was forced laughter, like they so wanted it to be funny they would just keep laughing to prove it.
5. I got my errands, exercise, and papers for my ESL class out of the way quickly, but then sat around for hours not studying. I never really studied for my final.
6. Right before bedtime, Piper was withering around and crying as she has gotten her enormously long dew claw stuck in her tags. I ran to her, and got her unhooked before any real damage was done. Dalan took her and got her nails cut today. During which she growled, cried, and fought the groomer the entire time.

7. I could not sleep, and laid in bed for over an hour. Then at 12:30 I felt Piper moving under the covers. I thought she was licking, so I nudged her. She did not stop, so I looked under the covers. She was having a seizure, despite her meds and being seizure free for 6 months! I grabbed her and held her, and said you will be ok. The seizure stopped. Thank goodness. It was the shortest least serious seizure she has ever had. I think I may not have given her a full dose of medicine yesterday. Let's hope that is it. She seems fine today. In fact, after it happened she cuddled with me for about 5 minutes. She then tried to "fight me/play with me" for the next twenty minutes. It was a long night.

It is not herpes if it is everywhere
This is one of my favorite quotes from the movie, Knocked Up. In case, you have not seen it or do not remember the scene, it goes something like this. One of the male characters responds to the news that one of the female character's kids may have the chicken pox, that he has had the chicken pox like seven times and has no immunity to it. One of his buddies then jokes that they don't have the heart to tell him it is just herpes. He responds with my favorite quote, "it is not herpes if it is everywhere."
That is EXACTLY how I am feeling right now. I have three, count them THREE, cold sores on my lips right now. Two on top and one on bottom. And before you all judge, and think how disgusting it must be, let me tell you a few things. First of all, while I will not "out" any of you here, I know about half the people who read my blog get chronic cold sores as well. So there. Second of all, it is totally disgusting and painful. I feel like Typhoid Mary or something. And leave it up to Abbie in my class to ask, "Do you have a rash or something?" I just ignored her. My self esteem was already low about the state of my lips to discuss it with her at that point and time.
I usually get cold sores when I am stressed or the weather changes. I was terrified of getting one for my wedding. I can usually take care of the actual sore (gross, I know) with medicine in a day or two, but then they scab (even worse, I know). Then they linger and stay on my lips for what seems like weeks. I was sure I would get one for the wedding with all the stress of the planning, and teaching school, and then when it snowed the week before the wedding, I thought I was a goner. But, yes Virgina there is a Santa Claus, and I made it through my wedding cold sore free. So, I guess my THREE painful sores now are a small price to pay for a herpes free wedding!
Here are some pictures I tried to take of my lips, but I could not truly capture the monstrosity that is my mouth....

Engaged and Underage
I love the show, Engaged and Underage on MTV. It is a total guilty pleasure, but I cannot help myself, because it equals pure entertainment for me. I love all the drama that goes along with being married barely out of high school. I love how naive the people on the show are, and how controlling their parents try to be. I love the morality of some of the characters, and the immorality of other ones. I could watch it for hours.
My favorite episode is the one with the young Mormon couple from Utah. I think because they are so stereotypical of everything people associate with Utahans, Mormons, and getting married so young. It also helps that the girl is so whiny, the boy is a total push over, and the bridesmaids are wearing white at the ring ceremony. This all makes the episode so great too. Oh, and when the girl is making spaghetti and frozen rolls to show her future mother-in-law that she will be a good wife. Pretty sure, all my fourth graders can handle spaghetti and frozen rolls. That would be like me saying I am a good wife because I made Dalan some Kraft Mac and Cheese for lunch the other day! Oh, or when the newly wed couple has his family over for dinner and their house is a total mess. I know I am not the best house keeper, but if a camera crew was coming to my house, I would at least shove the dirty laundry into a hamper!
So, if anyone is looking for a Christmas present for me, I will take Engaged and Underage Season 1.
